Choosing a boat trip in Malta
Boat excursions vary in purpose, pace and practical arrangements. Ask enough questions to know which kind of day you are buying.

Plan your visit
Suggested planning scope below. Use the official links for current bookings, services and access.
- Suggested time or scope
- Compare total duration, time ashore and time on the water separately.
- Route or planning approach
- Confirm the exact pickup and departure points, including any land transfer.
- Budget considerations
- List included and excluded items, reservation costs and cancellation conditions.
- Access & comfort
- Ask about boarding, seating, shade, toilets and lifejacket arrangements appropriate to your group.
A practical starting plan
- 01
Define the day you want
Sightseeing, swimming and a simple transfer are different purposes.
- 02
Compare the actual product
Check group size, route, time at stops and practical facilities.
- 03
Keep weather flexibility
Understand changes and cancellation before paying, then follow the crew’s guidance.
Read the itinerary closely
Check pickup points, time on the boat, time ashore, group size and what is included. A sightseeing cruise, a swimming outing and a transfer are different products. Ask whether food, drinks and any destination access reservations are included. A long list of named bays may mean passing them rather than stopping at each.
Discuss comfort and access
Ask about boarding steps, seating, shade, toilets and the suitability of the trip for children or mobility needs. If being at sea is unfamiliar, choose a manageable duration and discuss your concerns with the operator. Keep valuables and devices protected, take only what you can carry comfortably and follow the crew’s instructions on board.
Understand the weather policy
Confirm what happens when the operator cancels, changes the route or cannot make a planned stop. Do not expect identical sea conditions to a promotional photograph. Swimming remains a separate decision on the day, guided by conditions and the crew’s instructions. Keep a land-based alternative available so a cancelled trip does not leave the whole holiday feeling unfinished.
Use a side-by-side comparison
Write down the same seven facts for each candidate: start point, total time, time ashore, group size, facilities, inclusions and cancellation policy. This makes unlike products easier to distinguish. A lower price or longer duration is not automatically better if it changes the day into something your group does not want.
Frequently asked questions
Does a long list of bays mean a stop at each?
No. Ask which places are passed, where the boat stops and how long you have ashore or in the water.
What should I ask for a family outing?
Discuss age suitability, boarding, lifejackets, shade, toilets and the amount of time on the boat. A beautiful route description does not answer those questions.
What if the itinerary changes?
Use the agreed operator terms and ask about weather-related changes before buying. Plan a land alternative so the whole holiday is not dependent on one outing.
